I agree, I do think website design and everything that goes with that are important, but ‘helpful content’ for your buyer persona is even more important.

A particularly crappy design does appear to generate links though. Same thing goes for “coincidentally” funny domain names (seriously, with just a few tiny changes, http://www.penisland.net/ could become the pen empire of the internet thanks to its 27,000 links, 26,999 of which are from bloggers pointing out the cRazY name).

I wonder if it would be worth creating an eyesore like this, posting it round a few social networks saying “lolz, l00k at teh crappy site”. Wait a couple of years for the links to role in, then throw up a good looking, well optimised site on the URL and watch the rankings role in.

Hahaha. Ok after further examination I believe you are right, but I am also torn between the cartoon of the cat and dog that says, “Watch my cat Carl and his friend Gary dance” and Alf slowly chasing a cat across the screen.

Either way this made a pretty slow Friday interesting. I might bookmark it for rainy days!
