So it was quite ironic for me to stumble on to this post. With lazy eyes I read through the contents and now I feel like a recharged Energizer Bunny - I am amped for the afternoons work and I am quite positive that each technique I use will make a positive difference on the end result.

I find that what works best is to add value. Self- promotion on social media is like being the one at the Holiday party who talks only about themselves/their business and wonders why at the end of the night, are surrounded by empty seats.

If you add value in your interactions, over time, the business will come your way as you will be viewed as an expert in your field.

Your editor calendar suggestion is excellent. Also making sure that your social interactions reflect your business core competencies and interactions center around that is super important. Stay on point for your key messages and corporate identity and try not to stray too far, too often.

Give more than you get and not just during the holidays! Like, share, follow, fan, retweet, mention and comment on others content/profiles/blogs and become part of the conversation as opposed to presenting/broadcasting. The power and popularity of social is an outcome of its 2-way conversational nature. Exploit that.

Avoid engaging in posts on politics and religion. You won&#039;t changes minds so why divide the market? Save these kinds of interactions for personal profile interactions out of view of your business.

Maybe most importantly, have fun and celebrate victories, those of your staff, clients and personal victories. Social is a state of mind and should not be treated the same as other channels such as email or search. I want to emphasize this with one of my favorite guiding quotes: &quot;I&#039;ve learned that people forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel&quot; - Maya Angelou
