Hi Emily,
Thank you for the reply. Actually, I think we are on the same page. I have seen people throw away money on off-line marketing, and you have seen people do the same on-line. I think we both agree that both are needed and that different markets require different marketing.
However, I mostly wanted to thank you for taking time to reply to my comment. All the marketing in the world will not overcome lack of professionalism and I think that replying to "real" comments shows a lot of professionalism. THANKS

I am in process of running my first TV ad for a site. I think the most important thing is the trickle down effect.

The TV ad creates traffic, so your site needs to be set up to manipulate that traffic. Making it easy to social bookmark your content is vital when they get there so that it can spread and go viral. Having contests for pinning/liking/tweeting/etc. Also capturing their email and getting a list going.

Make sure to set the trap before flushing the game ;)

Rick,

Thanks so much! I totally agree with you that (well-done) SEO is a fantastic value and a really important part of any marketing plan. But, as someone who used to interview SEO consultants to help with my previous firm's marketing efforts, I hated hearing that SEO was a magic bullet approach that could totally replace our other marketing efforts. Different clients have unique niches, target markets, and needs - and in most cases (though, not all), a multi-channel approach to marketing is going to get the best results. A good internet marketing consultant is going to recognize that SEO and internet marketing can compliment other marketing efforts in other channels, making them collectively more effective for the client. It can be a beautiful, symbiotic relationship. :)

Great information Emily! Although I was blown away by some of the statistics for the off-line marketing, I still believe that the most targeted and best value for my marketing dollars is with SEO and online presence. I know a lot of small company owners that throw away a ton of money in off-line marketing, like yellow pages and others.
Thank you for the great post! Rick
