Miguel,

I can chime in on this as HTML5 will directly address what you are describing since you won't need Flash, Silverlight, or other video/sound plugins nor stand alone mobile apps as much.

This will also resolve having to create an app with a version for the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Palm, etc.

Additionally HTML5 will provide a browser end around the App Store and Apples controls/gravy train which is also why it does not allow Flash on the iPhone & iPad.

PS - Meeting Rae in downtown San Diego for dinner and drinks tonight (Saturday Jan 30th) if you want to swing down from Encinitas.

What does everyone think about the idea that "apps" will be rendered useless because of the growing number of folks that have full browsing capabilities on their phones. My idea is that because of this people will simply access mobile versions of sites, that are optimized and that can perform just as good if not better than native apps. Local (native) apps on your phone suck up valuable resources. Accessing and using your apps online, in the cloud, would free up a ton of resources on your phone.

With increases in mobile bandwidth (4G from Sprint) and processors this could work.

Any thoughts?

Dude, did you really just say that when you KNOW you have to see me in person tomorrow? Ass kicking imminent. Outspoken (with a lower case S) renders just fine on my BlackBerry... are you saying your Android can't handle it? ;-)

Besides... most folks use a feed reader to read us and there are plenty of those that work very well for mobile devices. :) I was talking more commercial sites... but, point taken and I'm sure, as Rhea said, she'll look into it.

I used the mobile app for NFL.com the past few weeks and it was great. Even found myself updating scores across the US while at the Ravens Raiders game in Oakland.

Hoping all airlines make it easy to checkin via mobile device, it's so much easier to check in via mobile while doing other tasks and print a boarding pass when you get to the airport.

I'm also seeing the business side of local, more users (both iPhone and Blackberry) using location based services to find and select our office. Being located nearby a major international airport (LAX) plays into it, but I've seen an increase of mobile usability in choosing our business. Something I find really neat.

We were using Wordpress Mobile Edition, but it did something really funky with a couple non-mobile Web browsers. It was really odd, but we couldn't risk losing them, so the plugin got turned off. Haven't checked back, yet, but we'll have to look at WPTouch. Thanks!

There is another site not optimized for mobile - OutSpokenMedia.com

***Covering head as Rae is so close to San Diego***

Not trying to be nitpicky, as I did abstain from commenting about And....Roid :)

Did you look at the WPTouch plugin that does user agent detection for mobile browsing?

Best I seen for automatic mobile rendering for WordPress sites.
