Thanks, Joseph! To be clear, this is a liveblogging post from PubCon, so it’s not my original work. But part of the reason we liveblog conferences is to provide quality information, especially to those who can’t make it to conferences for whatever reason. “…fewer but more powerful backlinks.” It’s absolutely true, and more effective.

Hello Michelle,
Great indepth quality article. It’s great to see you leading by example with the quality content. It seems a lot of people have been looking for lots of links by putting out short articles on directories, rather than doing fewer articles but making them indepth and high quality like this one. I totally agree with the building relationships and guest blogging instead. and having fewer but more powerful backlinks.

Awesome. Totally makes sense. Sorry I was a bit off subject, but I had that SEO Article subject in mind. Thank you so much for clarifying that for me :)
I can see how developing a blogging relationship is far more valuable and personal. This interaction proves it!

I design websites but recently have been forced to learn SEO and SEM in order to stay competitive. I’m So glad I found this website and your blog post :)

Hello Carlos! Thanks for commenting. I do not recommend writing and submitting articles to article directories to get more incoming links. Most article directories (sometimes pejoratively referred to as "content mills") do not have very high standards for what they publish, so it's very easy to publish just about anything there, especially if your only goal is to get a backlink and not add value to the site, or offer value to the readers. Content mills were hit hard by the Panda update(s) for those reasons. Sure, you could probably get a ton of backlinks from article directories, and it'd be easier than taking the time to build relationships with bloggers and garner valuable guest posting opportunities. But the links you build will be much lower quality. One link from a high quality site is much more valuable than five links from an article directory. Great article. Good point on talking to clients about revenue instead of raking for keywords.
