Where Is Outspoken Media? – September & October Edition

September 15, 2009
By Lisa Barone in Internet Marketing Conferences

Do you smell that? Do you know what it is? It’s Fall! And the beginning of a SEO conference season. Huzzah!

Fall is one of my most favorite times of year. It’s all about leaves and hot cider and pumpkins.  It also brings with it an abundance of new conferences to attend and this year is no different. I was taking a look at our travel schedule for the next few months and, well, the ladies of Outspoken Media are pretty much jam packed from now until the end of the year. Just to give you a taste and to let you know where you can find us, here are the events, conferences and meetups we’ll be hitting over the next two months.

Got a pen?

Albany SEO Meetup and Tweetup (Sept 18)

Okay, so this is really an “event” and no one at Outspoken is speaking, but there WILL be an Albany SEO Meetup this Friday in Troy, NY at Browns Brewing Co. if you’re local and want to grab a beer with some of the area’s coolest kids. Rhea and I will both be there, as well as some of our other Albany SEO friends like Kate Gallo and Amy Mengel. If you’re in the area, we hope to see you there. These meetups are always tons of fun and, frankly, Rhea and I still don’t know that many people in Troy since we work out of our apartments. We like making new IRL friends.  Come be our friend.

American Society of Journalists and Authors (Sept 24)

[This is where I proudly wave my journalist nerd flag.]

On Thursday, September 24, the American Society of Journalists and Authors (only the leading organization of independent non-fiction writers, you know!) will be putting on a webcast to offer advice on how to build a Web site, where to host it, how to optimize it, design considerations and everything else that goes into creating a great site.  The panel looks pretty impressive and even includes our very own Rhea.

If you’re in town, you can reserve your spot for the event online. It’s $25 for ASJA members and $35 for us normal folk. If you can’t make it, you’ll be able to buy the download after the webcast.

IZEAFest (Oct 1-3)

Rae will be welcoming in the month of October by heading down to Florida to attend and speak at Seaworld IZEAFest. Our mouthy CEO will be speaking alongside Michael Gray and a reported “Mystery Guest” (not that one. I don’t think?) on the SEO Rockstars panel to talk about everything SEO. Personally, I think getting to witness Michael and Rae trying to share a spotlight is worth the price of admission alone. [Someone get video for me.]

If the All-Star list of speakers isn’t enough reason to head down for this one, did I mention it’s also taking place AT SEAWORLD? I know. Color me jealous. Who doesn’t love penguins?

SMX East (Oct 5-7)

Of course, it wouldn’t be October without the much-anticipated SMX East show. The full Outspoken Media contingent will be making an appearance for this one. Are you gonna be in town and headed toward the sessions? You’ll want to mark your calendar for the following:

  • Ask the SEOs (Rae speaking)
  • Ask the Linkbuilders (Rae speaking)
  • Social Media, Search & Reputation Management (Rhea speaking)
  • Pumping Up WordPress For SEO (Rae speaking)

If you’re not attending, stick around because next week I’ll be posting my complete liveblogging schedule for SMX. It’s like being at the show but without the hangover.  And don’t forget, the IM Charity Party will be taking place on Oct. 5 with all proceeds going to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Be there or be known as an SEO douchebag.

Bend WebCAM (Oct 15-16)

The week after SMX, Rhea will be taking off to Bend, Oregon to speak at WebCAM (Web +Creative and Marketing) with a series of really sexy people like Chris Winfield, Dave Snyder, Derrick Wheeler, Laura Lippay, Todd Friesen, David Mihm, Adam Audette and a whole bunch of others. You’ll be able to catch Rhea heading up Day 1’s Reputation Management session.

You can find the full agenda for the event here and I was told there was going to be free local Bend microbrews for attendees to enjoy. Someone please remind me to put this on my calendar for next year. Lisa goes where the good beer is.

BlogWorld Expo (Oct 15-17)

It’s my most favorite time of the year. BlogWorld time! Straight from her speaking gig in Oregon, Rhea will be flying in to tackle the SEO/SEM session on Day 2 with Stephan Spencer, Larry Ballin and Brett Tabke. I, on the other hand, will be doing my best to liveblog the event in between my giggle fits and running around the conference hall like a little girl. I missed last year’s BlogWorld due to that moving to NY thing (aw), but after attending back in 2007, I’m very excited to get back. The agenda looks awesome and it should be a great show for the blogger, podcaster and community builder in all of us.

Oh, and Guy Kawasaki is delivering a keynote. Not sure if you remember what happened the last time I blogged one of those, but , um, I promise to do my best to behave myself this time.

Well, there’s a glimpse of the conferences that will be keeping us busy before PubCon and Audience take over in November. If you’re going to be attending any of the above shows, please drop us a comment and let us know. I wasn’t kidding about that “Rhea and I have no friends” thing.
