I have recently been building profiles (and contributing quality content of course) and then linking to the profiles. Have built good quality backlinks from these.

And it is interesting, when I study our backlinks using google’s webmaster tools, I’m always surprised when google finds a backlink in a pdf or doc file that somebody has posted on their site. These do seem to provide value as well.

Great post! These are excellent suggestions for building links. I think the rule any webmaster needs to follow is to ask themselves: “is this content valuable enough that people will link to it or include it on their site?” If it passes that test, you are in luck. The days of simply asking for links are long gone!

Questions about Widgetbaits:

1) Should widgtes carry a disclosure that there’s going to be a link back to the parent website?

2) Should there be a checkbox option to opt-in for the editorial vote going back to parent site?

3) Can the Link back in widget code have anchor text or just plain ol’ domain name`?
