Very nicely written Lisa, and I have to agree with almost 90% of it. That last 10% I’ve been kind of questioning lately, and it’s regarding the face thing. I’m running a test on my business site and business blog by removing my image from it because, well, I just have to see if the lack of actual leads & business is because of my image (minority) or because, well, maybe the content isn’t compelling enough. Yes, even in 2011 it’s still a question in some industries as to whether someone of a different hue is measured as an equal regardless of what they look like.

Of course, you see my gravatar here, and it’s not associated with my website, which lets you know that I have no such qualms about this other blog, no matter what responses to it might be.

By the way, I might not share the cupcake website, but I might still be compelled to buy something; after all, they ARE cupcakes! :-)

Hi Lisa, totally agree with your points. I wrote a blog yesterday on something very similar which mentioned having an email signup box and making sure your contact details are on every page.

When I was looking for web hosting, many of the reasons above are why I ended up choosing DreamHost. This is a situation where trust is very important, because the last thing you want is a spotty web host.

I appreciate that they used pictures of themselves (I think) rather than stock photos, and the early age is a nice touch to give it some personality. The “green” push is a nice viewpoint that differentiates them from other hosts, and the friendly tone helps as well.

It is lacking media, which would make it more shareable, but it still feels like they got a lot right with their design.

Honesty , openness and credibility are always rewarded whether online or offline .
