I’ve found instapaper to be a major help for building an editorial calendar and storing away those “good” ideas for later. Apps like Flipboard and Zite have been helpful for stirring up ideas, as well as keeping up with our industry.

Agree 100% with writing in a cafe while people-watching. It’s rare that I can finish a post like that, but inspiration certainly shows up there.

Great post! For me, I’m the type that will never run out of ideas for content as my mind races one million miles per hour and there’s always an idea floating around. I do love your idea about writing in bursts. So often I have forced myself through the 3 points of a post, when I really only have 1 good point and 2 crappy ones. I should learn to leave it, walk about and then go to it again. So many times after a post is published, I wish I could go back and add something to because you’re right; A fully developed idea takes time.

I cant barely write in my home office though. Most of my “good” ideas and posts come when seated in Starbucks with a Tall Dark Roast. :) People-watching seems to get my creative content juices flowing.

Enjoyed this post. Being an extrovert myself, I have many of the same issues. My favorite tip is to start off-line. I find that if I have access to the internet, I end up putzing around instead of actually creating something.
A close second is about perspective. Just getting out of my comfort zone and going to MozCon last week energized me to the point that I just knocked out a related post, am about to finish another (just for Rand, but I’ll share it with you if you like) and am working on a third!
Anyhow, great to meet you, and I’m really looking forward to the next chapter in this series.
